Rendering Quality
VirgoMotionStudio has a Rendering Quality setting that lets you switch the rendering quality to match your PC's performance and your streaming needs. You can balance visual quality against the load on your PC simply by choosing one of the provided presets.
The main presets are Fast / Standard / Beautiful, and in addition you can also choose VRC Low / VRC Medium / VRC High.
If your stream stutters or the PC load feels high, choose Fast. If you have a high-performance PC and want the best-looking image, choose Beautiful. For most cases, the default Standard is fine.
How to Change It
You change the rendering quality from the "Rendering Quality" section in the Remote app's settings screen. Selecting a preset is reflected in the Studio app's display right away.
Main Presets (Fast / Standard / Beautiful)
The further right in the table below, the better it looks — but the heavier the load on your PC (especially the GPU). Standard and Beautiful are set to a higher shadow resolution, and Fast is the lowest-load setting.
| Item | Fast Lightweight & fast | Standard Default | Beautiful High quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shadows | Effectively off (draw distance 0 m) | Hard + soft, very-high res (up to ~50 m) | Hard + soft, very-high res (up to ~50 m) |
| Anti-aliasing | None | 2x MSAA | 8x MSAA |
| Real-time reflections | Off | On | On |
| Pixel lights processed at once | 4 | 4 | 8 |
| Detail at distance (LOD bias) | Standard (1.0) | Higher (1.5) | Highest (2.0) |
| Intended PC | Low-spec / want to reduce load | General streaming | High-spec / quality-focused |
VRC Low / VRC Medium / VRC High Presets
In addition to the above, three more presets — VRC Low / VRC Medium / VRC High — are available. These match the same rendering settings as VRChat, so they are useful when you want your avatar to look the same as it does in VRChat. Across the three levels, the main differences are shadow draw distance and anti-aliasing strength.
| Item | VRC Low | VRC Medium | VRC High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shadows | Hard + soft, medium res (up to ~75 m) | Hard + soft, high res (up to ~75 m) | Hard + soft, very-high res (up to ~150 m) |
| Anti-aliasing | None | 2x MSAA | 4x MSAA |
| Real-time reflections | On | On | On |
| Pixel lights processed at once | 4 | 4 | 8 |
| Detail at distance (LOD bias) | Standard (1.0) | Higher (1.5) | Highest (2.0) |
"VRC" means the preset reproduces the same look as VRChat — it is not tied to a specific avatar. All presets work with any avatar. Choose these when you want to match the familiar VRChat appearance.
What Each Item Means
- Shadows — Whether shadows cast by the avatar and background are drawn, plus their precision and draw distance. The longer the draw distance, the farther away objects still cast visible shadows.
- Anti-aliasing — Smooths jagged edges (jaggies) on outlines. A higher MSAA factor (2x → 4x) is smoother but heavier.
- Real-time reflections — Updates reflections on mirror-like and metallic surfaces in real time.
- Pixel lights processed at once (pixel light count) — The maximum number of lights computed per pixel. More means more lights handled at high precision.
- Vertical sync (VSync) — Synchronizes rendering to the display's refresh rate to prevent tearing.
- Detail at distance (LOD bias) — How detailed models stay as they move away from the camera. The larger the value, the more detail distant models retain.
Which One to Choose
- If you're unsure, start with the default Standard and see how it goes.
- If your stream stutters or the load is high, drop down to Fast.
- To maximize quality on a capable PC, choose Beautiful (with VSync and reflections).
- If you want your avatar to look the same as it does in VRChat, choose a VRC preset (the highest quality is VRC High, with 4x MSAA and 150 m shadows).
The higher the quality, the heavier the GPU load, which can lower the frame rate. Choose based on whether you prioritize a smooth stream (frame rate) or appearance.
